This is a true sequel, so first and foremost, read Sons of Sludge (SoS) before you pick up this book. That being said, I thought DoD was a pretty big departure from Book 1. Though we continue to follow Zaul and his constant "who am I?" internal struggle, the story is entirely new in so many ways. Upton introduces us to new characters, different settings, and fantastical imagery. I am always amazed how authors create entirely new ideas within a story, and Upton's description of board games and language transports the reader into another universe. Zaul and Genny continue to evolve their sense of right and wrong, and in the final battle are confronted with ethical dilemmas more complex and darker than the average young-adult novel provides. Unexpected, challenging, and thought-provoking moments in an enthralling story. I very much enjoyed this story from start to finish.Product details

wonderfully written! I love this series and I love this book!
Josiah Upton goes seamlessly into the second installment without missing a beat!
Just as good as the first book! Not like in movie series where the middle is just filler, this is packed full of character development, plot development, etc. You need to read these in order and if you like zombies, you need to read them now!
